A WEEK WITHOUT ZACH: DAY 1 NIGHT 2

CHAPTER 4:

A WEEK WITHOUT ZACH

DAY 1/NIGHT 2

Sage woke up feeling refreshed the next morning, looking at the clock she could see that it read 7 am. She wasn't all that surprised that she had woken up at her usual time she was more surprised at the feeling of a good nights sleep.

Scratching her head she sat on the edge of the bed deciding if she wanted to curl back up and go to sleep or if she actually wanted to participate in life.

In all honesty, she was home sick and wished Zach would just get here already.

"Don't start slacking..." she heard his voice in her head.

"Oh alright" she sighed slipping her bedroom shoes on and making her way to her dresser in search of her comfy workout clothes so that she could start her routine.

3 hours later she was ready for the day and her first day at work with a few hours to spare.

Grabbing herself a bowl of fruit salad she plopped herself in front of the tv to check out the sports highlights that she had missed during the initial move.

"awww come one ref are you blind!" she screamed at the tv getting lost in the basketball game that was on. "how was he suppose to get the ball if he didn't touch him at some point?"

Sage was so lost in her game that she had missed the phone call from Zach, Torn between missing his voice and getting sad hearing it she decided to text him instead.

She was done talking, Here she was missing him like crazy on DAY 1 and he had the nerve to not care about her feelings at all. Their coach would not approve a physical on such a short notice and now he still hadn't gotten it.

One top of that, He lied! he said that he had already had it done and was told he had to wait a week before the transfer. She was confused and a little hurt but she still despite being annoyed at him couldn't help but miss him.

pulling out her phone again she shot him a quick text telling him that she was still really mad but she loved him anyway.

A WEEK WITHOUT ZACH: NIGHT 1

CHAPTER 3:

A WEEK WITHOUT ZACH

Night One

It took Sage only a few minutes to settle into her new home, as she hadn't really brought anything but clothes per the agreement she had made with both Zach and Eliza.

Eliza hadn't wanted her to change anything and Zach didn't want to spend any money moving furniture if it was just going in storage, so they sold it...everything except the bare minimum that they needed to survive.

"This place isn't too bad" she said to herself  as she scanned the room that would be her bed room. "I mean it could be worse, although I will have to ask Eliza about changing some of the bedrooms around to make room for our children but all in all not bad. Not good but not bad"

Sage went about busying herself with unpacking her luggage and putting away her clothes, of those she had few of too unless they were workout clothes. Between work and working out both Zach and Sage did very little socializing and even less in the presence of someone that would criticize their fashion choices.

"This is going to be a long week." she said shaking her head.

*******
Night 1

Sage didn't sleep that night, at all she spent most of her night reading some of the older copies of the books that Eliza's parents had presumably collected over the years.

Between that and looking at all of the pictures on the wall Sage concluded that Eliza's parents were a lot more well off than the size of their home made them out to be.

Sage pulled out her phone and called Zach, It has to be at least 10 there so he should be home. she thought as she dialed his number.

"Hey baby I was just about to call you" Zach said after only one ring.

"You answered the phone fast." Sage said.

"Well I told you that I was about to call you, you called while I was dialing your number." He laughed. "Wait what are you doing awake isn't it like 3 am there?"

"Well my body is used to it being 10 at this time and I can't possibly sleep in Eliza's parents bed."

"did they not change the sheets?"

"oh no they changed the whole mattress but it still doesn't feel like ours yet. well not until we..."

"Well I see your libido is still up and running as well."

"You know how I am" she laughed.

"did you find a good gym there?"

"I found one but I didn't go to it. I just did a jog around our neighborhood and called it a day. I'll count today as one of my cheat days." she said bowing her head as if he could actually see her.

"don't start slacking, you don't want to play catch up while trying to fit in with the new team do you?"

"no, but I am so lonely I miss you"

"I miss you to baby, but we only have 7 more days and 6 more nights"

"yeah, Only." she mumbled.

"hush, and go get in that bed."

"but-"

"just get in the bed, I'm going to sing you to sleep."

"I love you Smoochy" Sage said with a childish grin on her face. He always found a way to be such a romantic it was one of the things that drew them together.

"I love you too babs. Are you in the bed?" he asked.

"Yep"

"comfy"

"as comfy as I can be"

"good." he said as he started to sing the chorus of Freeing Myself by Dynasty Darling which happened to be Sage's favorite song even though it was more than a few years old, Lulling her into dreams of her own Dynasty.

The House

Chapter 2:

The House

The plane trip was a long one, longer than any that either of them had ever been on. What made matters worse was that sage had to take the trip on her own. Zachariah's old boss wouldn't let him transfer without a physical which Sage had been on him for 3 months to have done which resulted in him having to work another week before he came to Willow Creek. As a member of an athletic team he should have known better. At least those were the thoughts that she had as she boarded the plane by herself making sure to take a nice dose of Simply Sleep before take off.

Now that she had landed, She was more sad than angry. She had wanted to start this journey with him together not thousands of miles apart.

Sage internalized her hurt as she saw her friend waiting in the airport with her handsome husband.

"Eliza!" she screamed at the same time Eliza had run over to her. Her husband whom Sage had only met once at their wedding was looking slightly uncomfortable.

"I missed you sooo much" Eliza said with a smile as she engulfed Sage in a hug that showed hints of how deep their friendship actually was. "where is that handsome Husband of yours?" she asked wagging her eyebrows.

"oh, stop" Sage said. "He couldn't come today. He didn't get his physical done in time for the transfer to be granted so he has to stay for another week" she added with a frown.

"oh that sucks, where the doctors not able to see him?"

"No, More like he procrastinated. I told him that Procrastination was going to be his downfall."

"That is just like a man, Bob here was suppose to clean the car and have it detailed a week ago, I wake up last night at three in the morning to him vacuuming the car out so that it could be detailed before your plane landed." Eliza said with a smile. "I think it is just a man's nature to work faster under pressure."  Both girls laughed outright.

"Ladies, I don't mean to ruin your reunion but we might want to head out before traffic gets hellish" said bob from his spot a safe 10 feet away from the squealing besties.

"Well hello to you to Mr. Pancakes" Sage said rolling her eyes. She wouldn't say that she disliked Bob, He was tolerable but he wasn't who she would have pictured her energetic college friend ending up with. Although looking at them it seemed like he had a pretty good grip on how to handle her wild side. Sage could recall the single Eliza making much more of a scene that would have embarrassed them both.

"Hi there Sage" He replied sourly

"Coming honey bear" she said sweetly. "All work and no play this one is" she said nudging Sage as she leaned in to pinch Bob's bottom as he bent to pick up Sage's bags.

"Liza!"

"Thank you Honey Bear you are such a big help." she smile ignoring the chastisements.

****

The car ride from the airport to what would become their new home was a short one but with a lot of scenery.

"It's beautiful" Sage said, she had come to Willow creek 3 times but she hadn't really been bothered about the scenery and each time had been so spaced out and not the focal point that she hadn't remembered the specifics of what she had seen. Now though, since she was going to be living there she wanted to take in the sights so that at the very least she would know where the closest gym was. being an athlete herself she needed to make sure she was able to get to a gym at least 4 times a week if not more.

"I know, I really wanted to stay in San Myshuno after college but I mean look at this place, and it's a safe place to raise children and mostly everything is in walking distance. It has that community vibe to it." Eliza said breathing in a deep breath. "and I met my Bob the Banker while here. It was really what solidified everything for me. My life was still here and I'm a slow paced country bumpkin myself."

"That life suits you Eliza, I am still a little worried about how we will transition our lives from fast paced to having enough time to smell the roses. Mainly Zach, He was born and raised in San Myshuno this is a bigger change for him than me."

"You will readjust, or in his case adjust besides you said that you were going to be starting a family, so there really is no reason to be worried about a slow pace, I hear children keep you young." Eliza laughed.

"Yeah, Willow Creek has just as much if not more to offer than San Myshuno, it's just in a different format. You have to find your style." Said Bob from behind the steering wheel.

The rest of the car ride was silent as she thought about what her friends had told her about her new home.

****

"Annnd We are here" Eliza said clapping her hands proudly. This house has been in the family for generations, 10 to be exact but Bob and I have plans of our own and we love the house we are in but I didn't want to see this house torn down and turned into another StarCafe I think the world has enough of those."

"The world can never have enough StarCafes but I understand completely. I thank you for giving me this opportunity."

"it's no problem at all. If it is all the same I would still like to keep it in my name but your family can live in it for as long as you need."

"what about your children?"

"we will cross that bridge when we get to it." she said looking at the big beautiful old styled house.

Sage didn't miss the saddened look that Bob threw at Eliza as she looked at the house with a smile on her face.

"Shall we go in?" she asked already halfway out of the car.

Sage Followed her to her future.

THE AIRPORT

CHAPTER 4:
ZACH COMES TO WILLOW CREEK

It had been 6 days 23 hours and 47 minutes since Sage had seen Zach. Making this time the longest that they had ever been apart. Even when one or the other is away for work they had always come to visit halfway through their trip.

Zach was due to arrive at 4 in the morning, She had been here since midnight. Some, her loving husband included would call her a little high strung and over eager at times. Sage knew this about herself and instead of letting it be her downfall she had embraced it as a defining feature.

The clock wound down the minutes before his plane was set to land and Sage found herself trying to count back, trying to remember how long it took her to get from the plane to the luggage area.

She had been lost in her calculations when she heard the roaring of a plane coming in. She ran to the window to watch it land.

"This is it" She said aloud. It had to be she knew that this was the only flight that was coming in at 4 in the morning. That didn't stop her from looking at her phone to make sure that it was in fact 4am.

There had not been a more impatient person in that airport than Sage as she alternated from pacing as close to the portal as she could get and bouncing on her heels by the window where the plane had landed. She couldn't see when the people had gotten off of the plane but it had been at least 10 minutes so she knew that they had to have been off by now.

At exactly 4:23 am a scream coming from deep within Sage bubbled out of her at the sight of her husband whom she had gone a whole week without.

"SMOOCHY!!!" She screamed again running towards the man that had dropped his carry on back and awaited the embrace from the tornado that was his wife. "I missed you so much Smoochy" she said hugging and touching every part of him she could, forgetting that she was in fact in the middle of the airport.

"We talked everyday Babs"

"That isn't the same thing and you know it Zach and if you don't start acting like you missed me too then your first day in our home will be spent in the doghouse." Sage said.

"I won't really have to pretend Babs." He conceded.

"Aww...Smoochy" she said before kissing him again.

"Now I don't know about you but I would like to get out of here so I can show you exactly how much I missed you" he whispered in her ear. "unless you would rather stay here and grab a bite-"

"Let's go home, wait until you see the place, it really isn't that bad. I mean it's out dated but considering what we had at the apartment when we first moved in this is a huge step up." She said unlocking herself from him. "I can definitely see little feet pitter pattering through those halls."

"Well, Hurry up then so we can start the pitter patter maker." he laughed picking up his luggage and heading to the door holding it open for a deliriously happy Sage.

Chapter 1: Cloudgazing

Meet Zachariah And Sage.

"I'm going to miss it here" Zachariah said looking up at the sky as they lay by their apartment building.

"We can still cloudgaze at the new place" Sage sighed.

"It isn't the same, I mean here-"

"We probably should be doing it here anyway as dirty as this sidewalk probably is."

The Apartment when the electric hadn't been paid.

"Yeah, but this is our spot" Zach said in a tone that was starting to grate on Sage's nerves. "And our little apartment has so many memories."

Rats!!

"Our rat, roach, and ant infested apartment does have many memories" She rolled her eyes as she said this not really caring if he saw or not.

Getting ready for High School Graduation

"Come on now Sage be reasonable, We have lived there since high school."

"That is exactly my point Zach, We have lived there over a decade It's time for a change."

"And you thought that this was a good idea" He asked looking at her from the corner of his eye.

"We have been over this a million times and you agreed to it all of those times why are you still complaining about this arrangement?" Sage said sitting up.  "We are doing them a favor just like they are doing us one. Eliza is in love with her house and she doesn't want to leave it but she doesn't want her parents house to be put on the market or thoroughly mistreated. We should be honored she trusts us to rent it from her."

"I understand all of that Sage but with 20,000 we could start our own home, our own legacy somewhere."

"I know that is what you want baby, But look I am 25 years old and I want a family. I don't want to have to try to juggle building a house, Having a full time job, and raising our child. I can do it if I had to but now I won't have to"

Sage poked at her husband's ribs after a moment of no response.

"Your argument has Merritt love. I promise that I won't say anything else about it."

"Really?" Sage asked excitedly.

"I promise"

Sage let out a squeak before kissing Zach Square on the lips.

"Besides," he started "I am kind of in a hurry to see you pregnant with my child."

"Our child" She corrected him as she stood from the art square. She could see the look in her husbands eyes he really would miss the things that San Myshuno had to offer.  Understandably so as they were moving clear across the country. "We can still visit, I mean no one puts on a good festival like San Myshuno" Although she knew that those were just words. With a family it would be increasingly harder to travel such a distance. Still she smiled at the thought.

"Yeah we can" Zach said returning her smile joining her as the began to walk back to their much loved rat, roach, and ant infested apartment for the last time. Both thinking about the most special things to have happened at the apartment in their part of the city.
