Chapter 2

Chapter 2

It had been a week and  She wasn't able to get in to see the doctor for another week. She took a pregnancy test everyday just to make sure it was still something that she needed to do.

After all of the tests that came back positive. She was starting to believe it more and more and despite her best efforts her hopes were getting higher than she had wanted them to.

With her having to wait it was becoming harder to keep her news from Yohann.

Any time they were close together watching a movie

or having dinner,

or snuggling,

she had the overwhelming urge to share her news.

After another week of acting dodgy and skirting around certain subjects for fear that she would slip up it was finally time to find out if she was in fact pregnant.

With high hopes and her paper bag of positive tests she kissed her clueless husband goodbye and headed to the doctor.

Chapter 3

Chapter 3

"Mrs. Von-Wildenburg?" called the nurse from the door of the hospital.

"That's me" Torin said with a grin despite her nervousness.

"Follow me please."

Torin followed behind the nurse as she walked her past the sign in desk and into the first room.

"Now what brings you in today?"

Torin hated these parts of doctor visits, actually she hated doctors visits period and after all her trouble previously she would have been happy never to see another one again but today was different. Her impatience wasn't because she had wanted to leave, Not this time.

This time she wanted them to take their time so that there was no mistaking the answer if they did in fact tell her she was pregnant.

"Well I recieved a positive pregnancy test and I wanted to get confirmation."

"and when did you recieve the positive."

"the first one was a week ago yesterday"

"when was your last period?"

"2 months ago, but I am typically irregular I have PCOS"

"I see, Have you been pregnant before?"

at this Torin hung her head.

"Yes, UH three times. That I know of."

"I am sorry to have to ask this because it sounds so insinsitive but-"

Torin knew what was coming.  "It's okay I understand, let me save you the trouble. all 3 known pregnancies ended in Miscarriage. all at various stages. the first was I was only 15 weeks and the second I was nearing the end of the 2nd trimester and the last was in the 3rd trimester. I guess you would call it still born because She had been developed." A few tears dropped out of her eyes as she said this.

"I am sorry for your loss, but thank you for that information it is important for how we handle your visit today."

"oh I remember having to explain the same thing during every appointment talking about it is sad but if it means that I can have a healthy pregnancy and baby then I'll write an entire book about it if it was nescary I have made my peace with it" Torin said with a small smile.

"That's one way to look at it, If you don't mind me saying your positivity is infectious"

Torin laughed. "I don't mind and Thank you that is a joy to hear."

After a few more questions and the typical triage routine, The nurse whose name Torin learned was Samantha, handed her a gown.

"Slip this on and the doctor will be right in, although just between us two she is a little backed up, would you like a magazine or something while you wait?"

"No, I have my phone I think I will be okay" Torin said

"Well the call button is on the wall behind you should you need some assistance."

"thank you" she said as Samantha walked out of the room.

Once she heard the door snap closed she did as she was told slipping on the gown and laying back down on the bed.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

This isn't right Torin thought in disbelief staring at the pregnancy test in front of her. We have been trying for 20 years to have a baby I'm almost 46!

She couldn't say for sure how long she was in the bathroom but she was startled out of her musings by a knock on her door.

"huh..Oh...Yohann?"

"No Mrs Von-Wildenburg it's me I was just coming to clean the bathroom but I can come-" Jessup that housekeeper said through the door.

"Oh no Jessup, It is okay I'll be out in just a moment do you mind starting in the kitchen today I want to cook a big dinner and I would like to get started a little early" Torin said cutting her off.

"not a problem" Jessup could be heard walking away from the door as Torin went back to thinking about the life changing news in her hand.

She had planned on cooking a special dinner for Yohann anyway because he had just gotten that big promotion after putting in all those long hours. She had taken off early so that she could surprise him with it. It looked like she was going to have a little more to surprise him with now.

I'm pregnant  She laughed a little to herself.

After years of fertility treatmen

and  5 years of hormone treatments

With nothing but heartache as a result starting at first with false negatives.

Then the Miscarriages

One Hormone Overdose that the doctors believed may have made me sterile

and  many

Many nights spent crying on Yohann's shoulder

We had finally made peace with not having children of our own
and then I get pregnantI guess the doctors were wrong.

"let me take the others just to be sure" she said aloud not wanting to get her hopes up.

Well those three all say positive
Torin was still not convinced partially due to the fact that she knew that things like this only happened in movies thought up by a screenwriter. It didn't happen in real life and it most certainly didn't happen to her.

Except...When it did. 7 test and all of them were positive. She would of course have to visit the doctor to be sure.

Yeah no, don't tell him tonight. you don't want to get his hopes up just yet. After all this could be a big mistake. Torrin thought putting the used tests back in the brown paper bag and throwing it into the trash before washing her hands.

I will tell him when I get the confirmation from the doctor.

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

New Beginning

It had been a few weeks since she had left the university and between crashing at the library over a good book and sleeping on the couches of her college friends Simmie had become a little discouraged.

That was until she was heating up a microwave meal one day that she recieved the call that would change her life.

"May I speak with Ms. St. Cloud Please?" came the sound of a very feminine voice.

"This is her" She said rolling her eyes at her not so eloquent wording.

"Hello there, This is Nori Mashi from Bisker Publishing."

Simmie almost dropped the phone out of anticipation.
say something

"Oh, Hello"

"I was just calling to see if you were interested in the Intern position" said the woman

"Yes!...I mean yes, I am still very interested in that position"

"That is wonderful news would you be able to meet me at the StarCafe on the corner of Lewis and Shaw tomorrow to discuss your employment? I have a very tight schedule so I figured I would interview you during my lunch break."

"Absolutely, I would love to." she said

"Great, Lunch on me say 11:30? we can beat the lunch rush"

"That is perfect, Just absolutely perfect"

"great see you then Goodbye now" she said ending the call with a click. Sammie didn't even care that she hadn't given her a chance to say goodbye she was being interviewed for a job that could change her life.

Not realizing it but she let out a scream that could rival a scream queen actress.

"what is it?" asked Miko Running into the kitchen.

"I have an interview with Bisker Publishing"

"Nori called me personally and asked me to come have lunch with her."

"Well this day just keeps getting better and better" she said hugging her best friend.

"What do you mean?"

"Well first I had the best parking spot at work today, Then I got the last chocolate pudding during lunch." Miko said with a smile.

Simmie rolled her eyes, her friend could always find the good in the little things. "That's Gr-"

"I am not finished. I said it keeps getting better right?" she said smiling.

"yes"

"well on my way back from my last break my boss called me into his office and said that he liked the work I had been putting in and he decided to give me a raise."

"oh my-"

"not finished yet" she laughed. "once he told me that it was a 10 dollar raise that came with a promotion I almost collapsed but instead accepted the offer with as much grace as a fish that washed ashore."

Simmie laughed outright at this, as it was a completely plausible happening. Miko, for all her beauty was very clumsy and graceful when applied to her was walking across a room and remaining upright the entire time.

"congratulations KoKo!"

"Thank you, but it gets better."

"oh my goodness out with it already" Simmie smiled.

"I would have been finished already if someone hadn't kept interrupting." Miko Smiled. "anyway when I got here the landlord was in the hallway, he looked mad. I asked him what was wrong expecting him to give a quick nothing so I could come and tell you about my day but instead he told me that our neighbors. you know that loud disgusting ones that never ever clean up after themselves?"

"yes."

"Well they abandoned the apartment apparently they have been gone for a few months and they just left the place. It's in horrible condition but with some tlc it is still perfectly livable."

"You're not moving in there are you?" Simmie asked.

Miko's smile had begun to fad at this question.
"well, no Simmie I was thinking that you could move in there"

"Excuse me?"

"I mean, It's only for a little while until you get on your feet and find something better and the land lord is willing to take 300 a month until it is complete updated. That is a steal"

"because it's rat and roach infested I'm sure...how can you even expect me to move into a place like that?" Simmie asked shocked.

"I thought you would see it as the opportunity it is. I mean you have to get tired of sleeping on the couch here and..."

"and what Miko" Simmie asked annoyed.

"Well you are my best friend but, well I kind of want a few night with my boyfriend where he doesn't have to sneak out of the house before you wake up"

"We are all grown up Miko I am not telling you to limit company."

"No, Simmie I mean...Gabriel is moving in." miko said putting her head down.

"Oh, Okay I get it. I will talk to the landlord right away so that we can get something going" Simmie said dejected.

"Don't be mad at me okay I just-"

"No, NO it's okay. I am imposing-"

"you aren't-"

"not at first KoKo but that was almost a month ago. I understand I mean I knew I would have to leave anyway and I was hoping that It would be before we have gotten to this very awkward moment."

"Simmie I am so sorry I was trying to figure out how to tell you and I honestly thought you would jump at this chance since you said you would prefer not to have a roommate. I was going to tell you after you signed the lease that way we wouldn't be at this point at all."

"I appreciate it KoKo. I do" She said hugging Miko not really sure if she was trying to make Miko or herself feel better.

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

New Beginning

Simmie spent the next week crashing on her friend's loveseat avoiding her parent's house like the plague. She loved her family, she really did but there was just something about the constant arguing about her life choices that made it harder to be around them.

Ever since she could remember she was always their scape goat. Being born last out of three she had to deal with the feeling that she had been imposing on the perfect family.

With 2 older siblings, Not just older but perfect. She was the black sheep that didn't fit in with the Lawyer and The Doctor and their son the star Athlete and their daughter The Doting wife and mother.

Growing up she hated it until she had turned 15 where she embraced it and used it to her advantage to figure out what she wanted to do in life. Once she had started to make waves and people had started to notice her more her mother began trying to mold her so that she would fit in with the family a little more.

It had been too late by that point and she was no longer taking recommendations on her dreams and as such their relationship changed from neutral to a battle ground.

CHAPTER 1

Chapter 1

The Opportunity

By the flickering light of the table lamp sat a young woman silently reading.
I know that I could write a better story than this
The woman thought as she continued her silent reading.

Love in the time of sandwiches indeed.
She thought after reading a little more of book in front of her.
She had never really cared much for romance novels to begin with believing that they were all to cheesy to hold any real Merritt.

Still though that never stopped her from devouring any book that she could get her hands on, even if it was terrible.
She was fresh out of college with a degree in creative writing a degree both her parents had decided was a worthless degree, only good enough to land her in a low paying thankless job such as teaching other dreamers.

Closing the book she decided that it was time to do what she had actually come to the library for. She hadn't wanted to tell her parents but she wasn't coming back home. She didn't want to be around all of that negativity.

There has to be someplace for me to stay
she searched the rentals on the library's tablet.
I can not go back there
She scrolled and book marked and memorized numbers to every apartment rental that she came across, she didn't have much money to work with and she was hoping that there would be something cheap anywhere.

She had decided to put the tablet down and find a place to live in a more traditional route.
On her way to the library door she saw an old newspaper sitting on the table.
It wasn't the Newspaper itself that caught her eye it was the add on the classifieds that caught her eye.

Bisker's was the company that published her favorite book series and a publishing house for which she had hoped to have her own books published.

Looking at the date on the paper and her phone to make sure she hadn't missed the deadline. The cutoff was today.

Rerouting herself to the nearest computer she searched for the the company and prepared her email for Nori.

She wasn't sure how she was going to word the email but she decided that it both passion and professionalism would surely at least get her an interview.

And now we wait.
She thought with a contented sigh, she hadn't found a place to live but she did stumble across an opportunity of a life time.
